Enabling lifelong learner modelling through Blockchain technology

When:
Venue: Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street

No booking required

In this seminar will discuss the possibility of using blockchain technology to integrate formal and informal learning experiences into a common lifelong learner model.

First, we will review the area of user model interoperability and present our theoretical framework for designing personalized learning paths for lifelong learners. The framework supports contemporary pedagogical approaches that can promote the idea of a cumulative learning continuum, from pedagogy through andragogy to heutagogy, where lifelong learners progress in maturity and autonomy. The framework design builds on existing conceptual and process models for pedagogy-driven design of learning ecosystems.

Second, we will examine the emerging role of distributed ledger technology in the context of learner modelling. We propose a new methodology for sharing learner information that can guarantee the quality (provenance and accuracy) of the exchanged learner data while minimising the need of trust between the parties that share information. Our approach envisages a distributed ledger storing learning experiences in the form of Experience API statements, which can be used to build individual learner models.
